Mindset Shift
Calling for a shift in the way a field thinks about its work is simple to say but challenging to do. Extending the boundaries of current early childhood policies and programs demands that we begin by confronting the fragmentation of existing systems that limits the power of what each can accomplish alone, while recognizing that silo-busting is far from a new idea. Together, we must also build bridges to other fields, other domains, and new partners whose effectiveness can multiply the power of current early childhood investments.
By moving from rhetoric to action, we can improve outcomes for more children now, and over time increase the impact of programs and policies at a population level. The time has come for all of us to take a step back from our daily challenges and ask: Where are the most important sources of stress and adversity in families’ lives? What assets and strengths are primed for action at the family and community level? Where are the barriers to both child and adult well-being? What more can we be doing collectively to reduce (and eventually eliminate) obstacles to healthy development?
Please note: More specific information about emerging partnerships, beginning with community leaders in Atlanta, GA and Spartanburg, SC, will be shared on this site as our action plans evolve. Although we are currently at full capacity and cannot take on new partners at this time, we welcome you to keep an eye on our work, help us learn from each other, and stay tuned for ways to connect.
